A clarification first, because it matters
Buying local and made in Québec do not mean the same thing, and confusing the two makes the conversation useless.
Pentagone is a Québec retailer. Our first store opened in Rimouski in 1974, our head office is in Sainte-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier, and we now have 23 stores across the province.
What we will not tell you is that all our clothing is made in Québec, because that would not be accurate. The place of manufacture varies by brand and by product. Where the information is available, it appears on the garment label.
We would rather say so plainly than leave a vague impression.
What buying from a retailer here actually covers
Jobs in the region. Twenty-three stores means teams in towns of every size: Rimouski, Baie-Comeau, Sept-Îles, Chandler, Alma, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières, the Îles-de-la-Madeleine and around fifteen others. In several of those towns, a clothing store is one of the few options left.
Decisions made here. Buying, selection and service are decided in Québec, by people who live through the same climate and the same seasons as you. That is more concrete than it sounds when it comes to choosing a coat or the weight of a knit.
Service in your language, from people you can see. An order can be tried on, exchanged or returned in person. That is not an abstraction when a garment does not work out.
A presence outside the big centres. Our network is concentrated away from the major cities. That has been part of our story since 1974 and it is still what sets us apart.
What it does not cover
It does not mean every piece is sewn in Québec.
It also does not mean a garment bought here is automatically better quality than elsewhere. Quality depends on the piece, not on the retailer's address.
We invite you to look at the composition on each product page and at the garment label. That is the most reliable information, and it is the same information we have.
How to buy better, locally or not
Three habits are worth more than any label.
Look at the composition. It will tell you more about how long a garment lasts than the country of manufacture.
Buy the right size. A garment that does not fit will not be worn, wherever it was made. It is the leading cause of waste in a wardrobe.
Care for it properly. Wash less often, in cold water, drying gently. That is what extends the life of a garment most, by a wide margin.

From the first store in Rimouski in 1974 to the network today, what has not changed is that the decisions are made here and the people advising you live in the same province you do.
